The very best of Congolese Rumba (compilation)

The Congolese rumba is to Africa what the bossa nova is to Brazil and the morna to Cape Verde. Discreet elegance, flushing emotion, haunting, melancholy melodies and a refined sound mix, all contribute to the universal character of this music.
In the fifties, Wendo Kolosoy and Antoine Moundanda, were pioneers and the rumba blossomed in Kinshasa and Brazzaville, two capital cities separated by the Congo river. The elegant Kolosoy, famous singer for his suave voive and also called ‘Papa’ Wendo, and Moundanda, well known sanza player (a kind of "thumb piano") were the voice of the pre-independence and independence years. Worshipped since their youth, they have been through many turmoils, wars and dictatorships, and experienced both glory and oblivion.
