The Grand muezzin Sulaymân Dâwûd was born in 1931 in Damascus (Syria). Holder of a sincere and deep faith, he started to sing Koranic verses (al-talhîn) and for the call to prayer (al-adhân) from an early age. He was the student of the famous composer and Master Saîd Farhat, and dedicates his singings to strictly vocal performances, faithful to the Koranic tradition. In Islam, singing is often linked to Sufi mystics and Whirling Dervishes.
