Samba grew up in Dabi, a small village close to Tombouctou. His mother was very close to Ali Farka Toure, having even sung several songs with him. It was therefore natural that Samba took after the famous guitarist. After having learned the basics, he received the opportunity to accompany Ali Farka Toure's band for his international tour in 1997. By the end of it, Samba had associated with Zoumana Tereta, the master of sokou (a Malian violin), his brother Bouri, and Djimé Sissoko (the brother of Baba Sissoko) and together they brought to surface their own Malian blues.
