Rokia Traoré

Rokia Traoré is one of the greatest contemporary voices in Africa today. Deeply rooted in her African tradition, and yet looking at the world in a very modern way, her music is the artistic expression of her multiculturalism. Rokia Traoré is an accomplished composer and arranger as well as a poetic, sensitive, enlightened lyricist. Her songs pay homage to her country, speak of her vision for the future and invite those who listen to share in her experiences as a young and profoundly modern African artist.

Mouneïssa

Released : 1997  |   Label : Indigo - Label Bleu  |   Length : 46' 25''

Genres :  Afrobeat . Afro-Jazz - Juju | Afropop

Troughout &quot;Moune&iuml;ssa&quot;, her debut solo album, Rokia Traor&eacute; reveals an approach which is both determined and original. Rokia Traor&eacute; risks, for example, an instrumental pairing never previously attempted. She pairs the balaba balafon, an instrument characteristic of her region, with the ngoni, the instrument favoured by the Bambara griots. Such a partnership yields, in more than one unique combination of tones, a delightful tension which contributes to the groove.<br />Released in 1998, on Label Bleu Indigo.
