Pau d'Agua
There is a small club in Sao Paulo, called Ó do Borogodó, which showcases local acoustic musicians every night of the week. The group Pau d’Agua was born in this club about four years ago when some friends started playing there on Sundays. Now their Sunday night gig is packed to the rafters. Pau d’agua is a big band with five percussionists and when they sing, the whole room erupts with the entire crowd belting out the lyrics in full voice. This is the Brazilian music club of your imagination.Leo, the club’s owner sits in with the group on pandeiro and cuíca. Their recording was produced by group member and local studio owner Diogo Ramos. Diogo is also a composer who wrote their album’s title track, ‘Viva a Liberdade’.
