Papa Noel is a veteran of the golden age of Congolese rumba. His stage name, that could be translated as "Father Christmas" (the equivalent of Santa Claus) comes from the fact he was born Antoine Nedule Monswet on Christmas day 1940. He played guitar with several groups from the 50's, the 60's and the 70's, notably Rock a Mambo, les Bantous de la Capitale, Kabasele's Orchestre African Jazz and Franco's OK Jazz. He is one of the musicians who made rumba the Congolese musical trademark, the first Pan-African dance sound.
