Maqams of Syria
This album presents field recordings made in Syria by the late ethnomusicologist Deben Bhattacharya. In the Arab classical music system a maqam is a melody-type, based on a particular scale and following strict rules. The maqams to be heard on this recording are played on oud, qanun, ney, violin and buzuk.
