Known mostly under the name "King of zoulou guitar," Madala Kunene became popular rather quickly in the Townships of Durban. His music is deeply rooted in spiritual and traditional rythms. He started out collaborating with numerous artists such as Sipho Gumede, Robert Doc Mthalane, Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, and Mandla Masuka as guitarist. It wasn't until later that he launched his solo career, but he was always accompanied by the greats of world music such as Baba Mokoena Serakoeng, Syd Kitchen, Greg Georgiades, Ashish Josh, among others.
