Lei Qiang

Lei Qiang is a master of the erhu, a Chinese string instrument, from the Shaankxi Province in the People's Republic of China. He studied this instrument at the Xian Conservatory of Music and then toured with the Shaanxi Provincial Song and Dance Troupe. He now resides in Canada where he records music and performs publically.

The art of the erhu, an instrument that is first mentioned during the Song dinasty (960-1279), a period of flourishing artistic endeavours. Its sound is unique in that it resembles a human voice. This instrument is made from horsehair (the bow), steel (the two strings), and snakeskin, which covers the resonator.
