While Kurdish and Persian music are historically related, each has formed a unique path of development since ancient times. Kayhan Kalhor is a virtuoso of the Persian kamancheh (spike fiddle) and brilliant exponent of the Persian classical repertoire. Ali Akbar Moradi is a superb performer of the Kurdish tanbur (lute), an ancient instrument long associated with mysticism. Together they improvise on Kurdish modes, creating a new musical genre that transcends boundaries.
