Granmoun Lélé was a national treasure cherished by the whole population of the island of La Réunion. To the fiery beat of his family band, the husky-voiced bluesman from Saint-Benoit sang a traditional yet always-rejuvenated Maloya, with the candor and the audacity of those who perfectly master their craft. Granmoun Lélé died in November 2004, at the age of 74.
