Céu
Her full name is Maria do Céu Whitaker Poças, but she goes by the simpler moniker CéU. She was born in São Paulo, Brazil on April 17, 1980, into a musical family - her father being a composer, arranger and musicologist. By age 15 she had decided to become a singer, and pursued music studies in a college. Céu had a Latin Grammy nomination for “best new artist” after the release of her first album and received a Grammy nomination for "Best Contemporary World Music Album" in 2007.

It had been more than one year since we had heard about Brazilian singer Céu, but right as summer vacation rolled around, the beach filled up and parties were planned, she came back with her new album, "Vagarosa." The name, meaning slow, supple, and tranquil, properly describes the album's sound and spirit, though it cannot be mistaken for light or boring. Céu mixes traditional Brazilian music (her songs are all sung in her native language with her magnificent voice) with funk, jazz, and even electro and pop.
