With 4 CD "Angola - As 100 grandes músicas dos anos 60 e 70” (Angola – the greatest 100 songs of the 60’s and 70’s) is a journey through the most creative years of Angola. All these recordings were made at Valentim de Carvalho Studios in Luanda, from 1968 up until 1975 (the Independence year, when all the tapes were taken to Lisbon and kept in a warehouse until now). Except from 8 tracks released in Africa Crioula compilation, all of the 100 tracks are released in CD for the first time. These are original recordings, previously unreleased in CD and available for the first time now in this digitally mastered collection. This music was something unique for it's time, and later it was spread throughout the world and gave form to many other genres. All of these artists were originally from Angola, and due to the difficult period of the independence war in the country at the time, some of them emigrated throughout the five continents, taking their own culture and music in the luggage, others (as Sofia Rosa) were killed later for political reasons during the civil war, and some others became major local artists as Elias diá Kimuezo, today with a 55 year old career. Artists as Carlos Lamartine, Africa Show, Teta Lando, Chico Montenegro, Mário Silva, Santocas, Santos Júnior, Águias Reais, Quim dos Santos, Artur Adriano, N'Goma Jazz, among others, see their recordings for the first time in CD. Semba is the king of the popular music of Angola of this time, but you can also find Kazukuta, Kilapanga, Rebita, Dikanza and Merengue among these 100 songs. The CD 4 is mainly ballads. Apart form some songs sung in Portuguese and Umbundo, most of them are sung in Kimbundo (the Luanda and north of Angola language). Today, the locals still speak more than 20 different dialects, although Portuguese is the official language.
